One day after work, I went back home and switch on the television. I realized that Pearl is broadcasting "Brave New World with Stephen Hawking". Of course, I immediate sit back and enjoy it. It was already the last episode of the serious (N.B A total of 5 episode only). I watched back the previous episodes via youtube afterwards.
Each time when I had a chance to watch episodes related to science and technology, my thoughts, mind and feeling changed. (May be because I was always fascinated by science, the universe, and technology since young.) However, this time, I had a new feeling / thoughts regarding science and technology.
When I was young (i.e I was still a student), I feel curious, anxious and fascinated by the universe and the latest science. I feel excited to know the latest research that they are talking about and also hope to reveal more. While I started joining the work force of the financial sector, I realize there is no turning back for me to study / join the science related jobs or researches. (Frankly, it should be when I first choose to study real estate and construction, rather than Physics, there is little chance of turning back despite i still keep attending courses related to Physics for my non-core subjects). In the past, I always felt upset that I am not smart enough to pursue a science degree (in top university in US) and continue to do research, rather I pick a more realistic subject which I'm kind of guaranteed to have a job after graduation and at least I thought it's still a bit related to technology (i.e. construction). This time, my thoughts changed. I feel pleased to be able to have such curiosity to watch these episodes that talked about the latest science research and technology, and have such foundation knowledge (N.B as I choice to study science in high school) to understand them even not all.
I used to have a believe that "知識改變命運，科技改變生活，科學改變未來" (i.e. Knowledge change ones fate, technology change ones living and science change ones future). And I always think that it's the beauty to unlock the unknowns of science that enables us to apply these theories to technology and change our lives. So it has been science that leads to technology changes. However, after watching this series of episode, I realize that technology actually helps to unlock the unknowns of science. e.g they construct an underground site and build a chamber to capture the neurons on earth, they enhanced lacer beam to create a very hot environment hoping to create fusion. Without the advancement of technology, we couldn't unlock more unknowns of science. I would say, in the past, I only appreciate how the scientist discover more undiscovered area of science, but always neglect the effort and contribution brought by technology.
If you are curious of science and technology, no matter if you're working in this field or not, no matter you studied it in University, college or even high school or not, I highly recommend you to watch "Brave New World with Stephen Hawking"
